Lonar Lake in Maharashtra to be developed as a tourist spot

Lonar Lake in Maharashtra is one of the very important natural wonders of India that was created over 50,000 years ago! However, the lake is not as popular as it should be among tourists till date. In a bid to bring it on tourist radar, Maharashtra has approved a INR 370-crore development and conservation project.

The money will be spent on the preservation and conservation of the Lonar crater that was created by a meteorite collision during the Pleistocene Epoch. The money will also go towards maintaining forests and wildlife there to protect its unique biodiversity. The region also features an old temple which will be renovated under the scheme.

Andhra Pradesh’s tiger population has crossed 60 in 48 years!

It has been discovered in a recent survey that the population of tigers has reached over 60 in 48 years in Nagarjuna Sagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR), Andhra Pradesh. The state has implemented all important steps to protect tigers, from scientific measures to putting up a strong protection network. Due to these efforts, the forest authorities are hoping the number of tigers to be 70 in NSTR in the recent census.

For those who don’t know NSTR is the largest tiger reserve in India! The park was created in 1982-83 with three wildlife divisions. Today the park covers a huge area of 3727 sq km in three undivided districts, which are Kurnool, Prakasam and Guntur. With this, the state government is now aiming at promoting wildlife ecotourism in the park region.
