London tube and bus fares will go up by 6% from March

It’s been announced that fares across the TfL network – that’s buses, tubes and some trains – will rise by 5.9 percent this year. It’s the biggest rise in fares for a decade. It’s also worth remembering that there was a 5 percent increase in TfL fares this time last year. Bus fares will go up by another 10p (like last year), meaning a single journey will now cost £1.75. The daily and weekly price caps on pay-as-you-go tube fares will increase by up to 6.7 percent, depending on the number of fare zones travelled.

It’s part of TfL’s long-term strategy to get the network back on a more stable financial footing following the ravages inflicted by the pandemic and lockdowns. The organisation is seeking to generate £6 billion a year in fare revenue over the next few years, a 40 percent increase.

Buckle up: supersonic jets could be back in service by 2029

Nearly two decades after the last Concorde flight, supersonic airliners are making a comeback. US air giant American Airlines has placed an order for 20 new supersonic airliners, which could come into service as soon as 2029.

The aircraft in question is called the ‘Overture’ and it’s being made by Boom Supersonic, an American aviation company. Overtures are promising to be the world’s fastest airliner and reach speeds of Mach 1.7 (over 1,300 miles per hour), which is over double the speed of current airliners.

At that speed, an Overture will be able to get from London to New York (usually a seven-hour flight) in just three and a half hours and span Los Angeles and Sydney (usually a 15-hour trip) in just six hours and 45 mins.

Super Nintendo World opens at Universal Studios Hollywood in February 2023

Universal Studios Hollywood announced that Super Nintendo World will debut on Friday, February 17, 2023. The Mario-themed land will bring vibrant Mushroom Kingdom theming to the park’s lower lot with a new restaurant, retail shop and ride, dubbed “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge.”

The first iteration of Super Nintendo World opened in Japan in 2021, and based on the rendering in this latest video, the Hollywood version looks mostly similar to its Osaka originator. The L.A. edition lacks a Yoshi-themed ride, and the layout appears to be set largely on a single level instead of Japan’s multi-tiered approach. But otherwise all of the landmarks are there: You’ll walk in through a warp pit that spits you out in Peach’s Castle and stare down colorful cliffs dotted with coins, Thwomps and Piranha Plants. Bowser’s Castle, which houses the Mario Kart ride, sits toward the back, and you’ll enter via Mount Beanpole, the goal pole-topped peak.
