Immunity Boosting Turmeric Latte Recipe

When we talk about immunity boosters, the first couple of super foods that come to our mind are Pro-Biotics and Turmeric. Probiotics like milk has long played a starring role in human nutrition. This is thanks to the fact that milk, along with staples such as cheese and yoghurt, is a powerful source of micronutrients. “Milk is also an excellent source of protein and the particular protein it contains is [very effective] for building muscle. Good-quality sources of protein can help preserve the muscle loss [we face] during ageing. Cow’s milk also contains a whole range of nutrients including calcium, potassium and vitamin B-12. B-12 is important because it is involved in nerve transmission and in the production of red blood cells.” – says Dr Tim Crowe a research scientist. On the other hand clean eating trend of the food world has made Turmeric a sought-after addition to health-minded diners. Studies suggest the curcumin in turmeric has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects and is still often used during the cold and flu season to boost immunity.

Today we thought of combining the goodness of the two super foods to bring you the recipe of Turmeric Latte ( a beverage that has been every grandmother’s secret prescription to fight cold and flu). The drink has gained so much popularity that even Starbucks has started serving the golden drink at multiple locations around the world.

Cook Time: 5 mins
Serves : 2
Level: Easy

Ingredients:
350 Ml Milk (Any milk of your choice. If you are vegan go for almond milk or coconut milk)
¼ tsp ground turmeric
¼ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground ginger
½ tsp vanilla extract
1 Star Anise
1 tsp maple syrup or honey (Optional)
Grind of black pepper

Method:

Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and whisk constantly over a gentle heat. Once hot, pour into mugs and sprinkle with a little nutmeg and add the star anise to serve.
