Mount Merapi, the most active volcano in Indonesia, erupted on Saturday, sending hot gas clouds and volcanic ash into the air and causing lava flow. As per the reports, the volcanic ash blanketed several villages in the area.

If reports are to go by, tourism in the area, as of now, has been halted due to the presence of toxic gas and the lava flow. There are no reports of any casualties from the area but residents and visitors are advised to steer clear of the area. Mount Merapi volcano is located on the border of Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces. The mountain is situated just 30 km from Yogyakarta. There are more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia and Mount Merapi is the most active amongst all. Despite being one the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, Mount Merapi is a famous tourist destination.

Srinagar’s Tulip Garden to open in March for public, followed by the Tulip Festival in April

The garden, spread over an area of around 30 hectares, is the largest tulip garden in Asia. The garden has over 1.5 million tulips of different colors and varieties. Visitors can visit the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden from 8am till 7pm. For adults, the entry fee is INR 60 per person, and INR 25 per child.

India get’s world’s longest railway platform in Karnataka

Karnataka is now home to the world’s longest railway station. If reports are to go by, Indian Railways’ South Western Railway(SWR) zone’s Hubballi has its name registered in the Guinness Book of World Records now, for having the world’s longest railway platform at Shri Siddharoodha Swamiji station.

It is a 1507 m long platform that has been built at a cost of about INR 20 crore, and is a part of remodelling of the Hubballi yard and to facilitate running of additional trains in future. If reports are to go by, the total estimated cost of these projects is around INR 520 crore. The said developments are expected to enhance the quality of life by creating hygienic, functional, and safe public spaces and transforming the town into a futuristic urban centre.
