10 Halloween Foods To Cook With Kids

First for your dose of inspiration check out this beautiful creation by our youngest contributor (9-year-old chef) from San Francisco, California – Jia Sengupta. She made this with her mother Anoshua Chaudhuri for a Halloween special event organised by Worldly Wise Kid and Nibble n’ Gobble. While she called it the Puky Pumpkin (because Halloween), but this big plate of Nachos with Guacamol is extremely delicious. It is easy to prepare at home. It tastes scrumptious and is perfect if you are looking at mindful snacking.

Here are 10 other recommendations from The Foodie Network that your kids will love to make on Halloween.

1. Jack-O’-Lantern Burger : These homemade hamburgers are a fun and easy meal for your Halloween night. Juicy hamburgers made with ground meat (vegans/vegetarians can use bean patty, or beyond meat patty) topped with tomatoes, onions, pickles, and condiments like mustard, mayo, ketchup, BBQ sauce, on fresh buns with jack-o-lantern carvings are a star of the show.

2. Ghost Cookies: The best way to never be afraid of ghosts? Turn them into cute little sugar cookies. These spooky ghosts will be a hit at every halloween party and are far easier to make then they look! They are basic sugar cookies. Get creative with the colours, icing, and decoration.

3. Pumpkin Soup: This healthy and tasty soup made from a purée of pumpkin combined with chicken or vegetable broth is a popular Thanksgiving dish in the United States. But drizzle it with cream in the shape of a spider-web and it becomes a Halloween special.

4. Halloween Pizza: Take your favorite pizza recipe and arrange the toppings in frightening ways. Circular slices of pepperoni and olives make spider bodies, and you can fashion legs out of strips of basil. For ghosts, stamp slices of mozzarella cheese with a ghoul-shaped cookie cutter.

5. Avocado Toast: If you want to celebrate Halloween without eating a ton of junk, try our avocado toast faces. We used vibrant and tasty toppings like seaweed, olives, nuts and peppers, but you can use whatever you find in your refrigerator. Prepare the toppings for the facial features of the toast faces. You’ll need circles for eyes, and thin strips for smiles, scars, noses, and eyebrows. Chop the red bell pepper into small pieces to make lips, nostrils, and pupils. Slice the radishes for eyeballs. Slice the olives into rings for eyes.

6. Eyeballs Pasta: Turn the ordinary bowl of comforting pasta (even better if adding meatballs) into scary works of art by making them look like monster eyeballs. All you need is some mozzarella and black olives.

7. Stuffed Jack o’ Lantern Bell Peppers: Celebrate Halloween with these spooktacular healthy stuffed peppers. Using the tip of a small serrated knife, cut a face like a jack-o’-lantern into the side of each pepper. They’re perfect for a Halloween buffet or a family dinner ahead of trick-or-treating.

8. Halloween Fruit Plate: This Halloween inspired fruit tray has all the fun of the holiday, and not all the added sugar. You can make Frankenstein Kiwis, Ghosts made from bananas, cute dipped strawberries meant to look like candy corn, and our personal favorite, Monster Mouths.

9.  Halloween Cupcakes – Forget the candies. Halloween cupcakes are just as tasty, and way cuter and definitely healthier. Also you can get super creative with the flavours (pumpkin pie, ginger, oreo, almond, sweet potato, pumpkin spice)

10. Halloween Cheesecake: Try a no bake pumpkin cheesecake that is dressed up for Halloween with chocolate cobwebs. The chocolate cobwebs can be made with bittersweet, or even milk chocolate. This may be one of the best pumpkin desserts you’ll ever eat, which makes it perfect to serve to a Halloween crowd.
