Sri Lanka Introduces New Online Visa System For Effortless Travel

In a recent update, the Sri Lanka has launched a new visa process and online application portal, effective immediately. It is being considered a significant leap forward in visa services.

As per a press release issued, this initiative, as detailed in the Extraordinary Gazette No. 2360/24 dated November 27, 2023, brings in a more streamlined approach with updated requirements, fees, and validity periods for visas in Sri Lanka.

In collaboration with IVS Global Institute and GBS Technology Service, the department is launching the e-visa system, which replaces the current ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) method. This transition is aimed at improving efficiency and convenience for travellers.

For comprehensive information and access to the online visa application portal, individuals can visit www.srilankaevisa.lk. Through this platform, the department is dedicated to providing a swift and efficient visa application process, catering to the needs of tourists and investors alike. This effort is expected to bolster the economic development of Sri Lanka by boosting foreign exchange revenue and attracting investment.

The launch of the online system coincides with the introduction of new visa categories, fees, and validity periods. Travellers now have a wider range of options, including the Standards and Entertainment Purposes Visa for long-term stays and the Standard Tourist Business Visa for those combining business with pleasure. Fees vary depending on nationality, with special rates for SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries.
