The Chola dynasties were pioneers of temple architecture in Tamil Nadu. The Brihadeshwara Temple at Thanjavur takes the crown for being the tallest temple in the world and is among the “Great Living Chola Temples” as designated by UNESCO. Airavatesvara Temple, another UNESCO heritage site, is located in Darasuram town of Tamil Nadu.The Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple located in the Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu and is the third of the “Great Living Chola Temples” as designated by UNESCO.
