Google has revealed the top searched travel destinations in 2022, with its annual Year In Search list spanning across both flight booking and holiday hotspots.

On the holiday-planning front, Italy, Dubai, Spain and Greece were all unsurprising top-10 searches; while Croatia was ninth most searched and England and Scotland both snuck into the top 10 at slots eight and ten. In the flight searches category, the southern Spanish culture capital of Seville topped the list. Milan and Nice were the second and third most searched by those hunting for flights. Paris came in fourth in the flight searches list, with rising-star city breaks Porto and Krakow also making the top 10 for flight searches.

Saudi Arabia plans to build one of the biggest airports in the world

Saudi Arabia has announced plans to build one of the largest airports in the world, which will be called King Salman International Airport.

The King Salman International Airport, due to be built in capital Riyadh, will have no fewer than six parallel runways, allowing 185 million passengers to pass through annually by 2050. Built over the current King Khalid International Airport, it will sprawl over a whopping 22 square miles . The site will include over 4.5 square miles of retail outlets, “residential and recreational facilities,” and logistics space.

If you’ve ever wanted to spend the night in the actual Hobbiton, here’s your chance. As part of the tenth anniversary celebrations of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, you’ll be able to stay at the real-life Hobbiton movie set in New Zealand on Airbnb.

And what’s on offer isn’t just an overnight stay. As well as access to their own personal Hobbit Hole, guests will get a private behind-the-scenes tour of the set, as well as an evening feast, ‘second breakfast’ and ‘elevenses’ at Hobbiton’s The Green Dragon Inn. It’ll be the first time that anyone has had the chance to stay overnight in Hobbiton. Three two-night stays at Hobbiton will be available (on March 2-4, 9-11 and 16-18, 2023) and they’ll be dished out on a first-come, first-served basis. With space for up to four guests, the hobbit holes will all also cost just NZD$10 (£5.20, $6.30) per night.
