Covid-19 alert: India makes negative RT-PCR mandatory for flyers from China, five other nations

A negative Covid-19 test report will be mandatory for passengers travelling to India from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand from January 1. Flyers from these countries will have to upload their test reports on the government’s Air Suvidha portal before their departure. The move comes amidst an uptick in Covid-19 cases in China and East Asian countries.

Earlier this week India also re-introduced random sampling of international travellers December 24 onward, with nearly 6,000 passengers tested over the last three days. However, there isn’t any plan to ban travel or enforce any mask mandate.

Qatar reinstates visa-on-arrival for Indian travellers

Qatar has reinstated visa-on-arrival (VOA) policies, replacing Hayya card requirements, which were put into place for the FIFA World Cup in the country. So, now visitors from more than 95 nationalities can enjoy this facility and explore new attractions that have opened in the lead up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

If reports are to go by, Indian visitors will also be able to avail free visa-on-arrival in Qatar by fulfilling certain conditions. Indian nationals can get a free VOA in Qatar for a maximum stay of 30 days or as per the hotel reservation and under the following conditions: valid passport for at least six months, confirmed return tickets, and confirmed hotel reservation through ‘Discover Qatar’ website only. Do note, hotel reservations from other websites are not accepted.
